Artlife was beyond awesome for us! We spent the week hanging out with artsy-fartsy teenagers who love Jesus. This may now be my favorite people group. They don't have the life long hang ups most artsy adults are saddled with. They aren't afraid to try anything, they sponge up information, they can go for hours and hours and what you see is pretty much what you get. I helped Jason Nix with some songwriting classes and taught a class entitled "What is Worship?" And every evening, when all of the day's activities were at and end, I led the kids in a little bit of a more spontaneous worship experience. I chose a song with a simple chord circle and called out the circle to all of the instrumentalists, or passed around a simple chart. I taught the chorus to the singers and drama folks. We cleared an area in the middle of the floor to see what might happen. We encouraged them to express themselves to God however they wanted do. This video is from the first night that we tried it. Normally, we think it is a little weird to film people while they are worshipping, but we are so glad to have this footage. We are inspired by the freedom acted on here and we hope you will be too. These are precious kids and if you want to go to Artlife camp in Waxahachie, Texas next year, go on ahead and mark off July 9th-13th, we WILL be there.
